Airports are a fundamental component of our nation’s transportation infrastructure

Southern California is home to several world-class commercial and military airports, including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)John Wayne International Airport (SNA) in Orange County, LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT)Long Beach Airport (LGB)Bob Hope Airport (BUR) in Burbank, Chino Airport (CNO) and March Air Force Base (RIV) in Riverside.

The airports of Southern California are located in vibrant vacation destinations, including Los Angeles, Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario and the many exciting destinations in Orange County.

While LAX – the busiest airport in California – serving the Greater Los Angeles Area (Bob Hope Airport) is closer to Hollywood and Griffith Park, John Wayne Airport puts you within miles of Orange County attractions, such as Disneyland, the Honda Center, and Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Airports

California’s airport infrastructure is vital to the state’s economy. More than 150 million people and billions of tons of cargo flow through our airports every year. At Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) alone, more than 2,300 flights contain 80 million passengers and/or two million tons of cargo. LAX ranks 12th in the world and fifth in the U.S. in air cargo tonnage processed, valued at nearly $101.4 billion.

To keep the state’s economy healthy and remain competitive, it is critically important to maintain and expand California’s airport infrastructure. This means rebuilding and upgrading aging international and regional airport facilities.

Impact

Airports

These projects not only promise to transform LAX into a world-class airport and improve the travel experience, but to employ numerous people in the process. The effort is expected to create skilled jobs for 40,000 heavy construction workers over the span of the project. Airport officials estimate that 90 percent of the construction workforce will come from Southern California, with nearly 40 percent of those laborers coming from Los Angeles County.

Investing in airport infrastructure helps ensure a prosperous future for California’s economy.  Our lawmakers need to know that constitutes recognize the need for these repairs and updates.
