Legislators Impact Infrastructure Issues
Investment in infrastructure helps ensure that California’s economy remains vibrant and able to compete globally. In this episode of The Rebuild SoCal Zone podcast, Rebuild SoCal Partnership Executive Director Jon Switalski talks one-on-one with Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) about a variety of infrastructure issues.
As officials on all levels work to alleviate congestion at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles, Rendon notes, “I think it’s really important to be appreciative of all the workers who are working around the clock. It’s great for us to hear that the ports are going to be open around the clock and that the goods will get off the ships more quickly than they were before.”
Recognizing there’s a human cost for all this infrastructure, he emphasizes, “These are folks who are going to be working hard spending less time with their families … I always think it’s important that when you talk about some of the abstractions around whether it’s trade or the economy, to think about the people who are involved in those efforts as well.”
In this episode, Rendon addresses some of California’s most pressing infrastructure issues, including:
- SB 1 transportation legislation
- High-speed rail
- Housing crisis
- Climate change and drought
