Rebuild SoCal Partnership is celebrating National Water Week. Let’s use this week to recognize water’s vital role in our state’s economy, environment, and daily lives.
California’s water is essential, and maintaining and upgrading our water infrastructure is paramount for our future. This National Water Week, we’re focusing on key infrastructure projects that aim to secure our water supply for generations to come, including:
- State Water Project: A vital backbone of California’s water delivery system; The SWP is a multi-purpose water storage and delivery system that extends more than 705 miles, serving over 27 million Californians
- Delta Conveyance Project: Modernizing the way water is moved through the Delta to improve reliability and protect the ecosystem; The DCP would provide reliable water to 2/3rds of California residents
- Pure Water Southern California: Creating a new water supply to help meet the region’s needs; This project would produce nearly 150 million gallons of purified water daily, benefiting the 19 million people living in the Metropolitan Water District’s service area
- Pure Water San Diego: A significant investment in San Diego’s water infrastructure, aiming to create a more secure and sustainable water future by maximizing the use of recycled water resources. This project will provide nearly half of San Diego’s water supply locally by the end of 2035
We must modernize and invest in our water infrastructure. National Water Week serves as an opportunity for all Californians to learn more about these critical projects and efforts and the broader need for sustainable water management.
