The Rebuild SoCal Partnership (RSCP) has long advocated for increased infrastructure funding at the local, state and federal levels. A new poll finds that the majority of Americans, from both parties, agree with RSCP that we need more funding for the critical infrastructure systems that keep us moving and supply us with clean drinking water.
The poll, conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, asked participants to identify what types of funding should be included in upcoming infrastructure legislation. Despite partisan divides, the poll found much common ground among those citizens who were polled:
- A massive 83% of Americans (including 79% of Republicans and 87% of Democrats) are in support of increased funding for roads, bridges and ports.
- Greater funding for water pipe repairs to support drinking water infrastructure also garnered broad bipartisan support from 79% of Americans (70% of Republicans and 85% of Democrats.)
- The majority of those polled were in favor of additional funding for local public transit (61%), as well as funding for passenger and freight rail services (53%.)
- Overall, 59% of Americans (including 50% of Republicans and 69% of Democrats) say improving the country’s infrastructure should be given high priority by the federal government.
- Promoting economic and job growth was even higher on everyone’s list of priorities, with 71% saying that Washington should view the economy and jobs as a high priority.
