Keeping water infrastructure updated is key during California’s wildfire season

As the summer heat intensifies in California, wildfire season is in full effect. Wildfires have already burned through roughly 90,000 acres across the state, and summer and wildfire season have only just begun. With the summer heat already in full swing, it is necessary to ensure California maintains and updates its water infrastructure. Proper water infrastructure helps ensure fires can be contained and water can be transported efficiently.

These conditions highlight the urgent need to ensure California’s water infrastructure is up to date to combat these fires effectively. Aging water infrastructure hampers efforts to extinguish wildfires quickly, exacerbating their impact on communities. We must continue to advocate for water infrastructure upgrades and fund projects to improve this critical system.

Recent research shows that despite having two consecutive wet winters, the state is still prone to wildfires due to the abundance of vegetation acting as kindling, which dries out as the weather warms. The potential for devastating wildfires remains high, and our preparedness is more crucial than ever.

Stay tuned for updates on new and current water infrastructure projects, and learn how you can get involved in advocating for necessary improvements.
