Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced a major milestone in the ongoing improvements at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This week, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved $1 billion in additional funding for the final phase of construction of the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program Roadway Improvement Project at LAX.
This investment will be allocated towards the final construction package of the project, which includes the construction of reconfigured roadways, bridges, retaining walls, drainage systems, utility relocations, landscaping, lighting, signage, and intelligent transportation systems. LAWA has emphasized the importance of this investment, noting that the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program Roadway Project is one of the most significant construction improvement efforts at LAX in years, designed to improve traffic flow and access for travelers and the community.
LAWA has also highlighted the project’s strong workforce development and local hiring goals. Skanska-Flatiron Joint Venture (SFJV), the design-builder, has already surpassed its 30% local hire requirement, with over 50% of the workforce being local hires and more than 27,000 local worker hours completed as of this week. The project also partners with the HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program and includes a Mentor-Protégé program to grow and support certified local firms.
